Lucid is Dropping EV Prices

The starting price of the 2024 Lucid Air Pure is just $71,400, reflecting a price cut of $7,500 and significantly undercutting the most affordable current version of the Tesla Model S for those who don’t require all-wheel drive.

Even if you can afford to spend big on a luxury car, saving a few bucks but getting the same thing is always better. Lucid just pulled off that trick with its Air electric sedan, which has been on sale since its introduction as a 2022 model and boasts a range of up to more than 500 miles. None of the Air's specs have changed, but now it'll cost less—with the entry-level Air Pure model seeing its price drop from nearly $80,000 to just under $72,000; other trims similarly see drops, too.

The entry price for those seeking all-wheel drive is lower, too, in what amounts to a better-equipped car. While the 2023 Lucid Air Pure was available with AWD for $5,000 more, for a price of $83,900, the 2024 Air Pure is rear-wheel-drive-only. However, the Air Touring includes it for $79,900.

To compare with the closest competition, the Tesla Model S, including dual-motor all-wheel drive and carrying a 405-mile range rating, now starts at $76,380.

The Air Pure is still relatively new, as Lucid only launched it late last year, so making it more affordable could help boost sales. Lucid is working on an electric SUV that could appeal to more buyers, though that won’t ship until the end of this year at least.

The company recently started shipping the first few hundred Air sedans to its financial backer Saudi Arabia, which has promised to buy up to 100,000 of Lucid’s EVs over the next 10 years. But that effort will be limited in the near-term as Lucid has not yet built a full production facility in the Kingdom.
